Sunraysia Daily Workers Bowls Club article 2 Sep 22

Wednesday Social Bowls results, winners Tracey Metcalf and Rodney Johnstone, best second game winners Kevin Saunders and Brian Kennedy congratulations to all, with the commencement of Saturday Pennant there will be no social bowls.

There are 20 names for lunch at the Pizza Cafe at the Grand on Friday 2 September, 12 for 12.30pm just a small way to thank them for their support to our Club, thank you to thoses who have made the effort to attend our first outing and we intend to try doing this every month so please watch for the flier on the notice board.

First round of the Ladies State Singles was held last Sunday at Workers, congratulation to Di Smith who will be playing Judy Osborne in the final on Sunday, good bowling and good luck.  Should you have some spare time on Sunday please drop in and support Di, play will commence at 9.30am.

Friday’s, all members are invited to practice completing a few drills under the ever present Ken Job then midweek pennant players practice in their teams start time is 3pm.  It is good to see that participation has increased with members taking advantage to practice with the aim to improve their skills.

Members Draw has commenced and last week’s winner was Ken Job and the Joke Wild also has commenced and the Jackpot this week $100.  Saturday Pennant commenced on Saturday 27 Aug, and it was not a bad start to the season with Div 1 having a bye, Div 2 and Wks 3 were winners, unfortunately Wks 4 did not fare to well.  Midweek Div 1 and 2 were both successful and winners, well done.

Selection again has been a difficult task due to player’s unavailability and thanks to all those that have stepped up when asked to fill vacancies.

Social Bowls results for Wednesday were Neil Hurley and Tracy Metcalfe congratulations and well done.  State Over 60 Men’s Pairs held at Red Cliffs last weekend congratulations to Col Gowers and Ken Yeowart just defeated by Mark Eckel and Bob Deacon by one shot well done.  Dinner scheduled for Friday night has been cancelled due to lack of support, hopefully we will have one next month!  Should members have any suggestion on what social activities they would support to be held at the club or somewhere else please provide your suggestions to one of the Board members or place a note on the notice board so it can be considered and organised. Results for Wednesday Social Bowls are winners Ken Job, Chris Maddigan, Rodney Johnstone and Dom Derosa and best second game winners were John Arnold, Mel Dean, Bob Mathews and Jeanette Worthington congratulations to you all, well done.  There were no social bowls on Saturday as the Club hosted the Sunraysia Winter Single with a field of 24 players with Workers being represented by D. Smith, G. Weller, C. Maddigan, I. Lowe, H. Loveday, W. Long, B. Kolpin, B. Horton, K. Hayes, R. Archer, P. Bishop AFSM and R. Boyd, results were varied in the sectional play and knockout rounds on Sunday, well done to Wayne Long reaching the semi finals only to knocked out by a millimetre and we congratulate Rob Hanns the winner.  Monday was the Ladies Triples sponsored by Mildura Gardens Life Style Village and a big thanks for their support to our Club.  The day started with 48 starters with a good representation from Sunraysia Clubs, thank you.   The winners were the Ouyen team of J. Vallance (s) S. Kelly and J. Pengelly with runners up D. Loveday (s), S. Dusting and C. Wednesday Social Bowls were cancelled possibly the Bonanza was having an impact and members need the time to recover.  The Bonanza into the last 2 games and the winners of the Tapper Bishop Triples were A. Erskine, M. Press and M. Legin just getting over the top of R. Hogan, N. Hiscock and C. Scott and the winners of the last day Any Combination Fours were R. Bray, T. Bourke, F. Bacon and M. Legin with a close second G. Scott, P. Cattanach, C. Anderson and J. Phillips, congratulations to all the winners. To those members volunteering in the many positions, in the kitchen ensuring all are feed, at the Bar meeting the players needs, running the raffles and those running the events thank you and well done. Thanks to those who worked laying the concrete slab job well done and the shelter will be relocated prior to the commencement of construction of the viewing platform.  Thanks to Andrew Perry, Boral Concrete and Col Gower Homes for their donation of concrete and reinforcing mesh and equipment.  Wednesday Social Bowls winners were Mick Rhoden and David Sammut, best second game T. Wednesday Social Bowls winners were Mick Rhoden and Colleen Castleman, best second game Nobby Kerslake and Rodney Johnstone and Saturday winners were Andy Jennings and Colleen Castleman just getting over the top of Libby Jennings and Mike Gilpin, congratulations and well done.   Annual subscription are now due and can be paid at the club, via cash, cheque, EFTPOS or for those who wish to pay by EFT club bank details will be available at the bar.  Presentation Night was held on Friday night and was well represented by members and their guests enjoying a meal with their Club mates, congratulations to all those who won their awards for all their hard work.  Thanks to those members who jumped in to make the night a success by working in the kitchen, the bar and any other task required, thank you.  The Mildura Workers Bowls Clubs represented Sunraysia area at the Region State Finals held at Swan Hill, Fred Bacon in the over sixty singles, Dianne Smith (s) Daphne Loveday, Dawn Jackson and Joy Stevens ladies fours, Dawn Jackson and Joy Stevens ladies pairs, Terry Bourke (s) Mick Legin and Chris Maddigan men’s triples.  We are all very proud to have so many of our members compete on that weekend.

Social Bowls results for Wednesday, winners Geoff Maddigan and Ross Stevens, Best Second Game Peter Bishop and Czes Knight, and Card Draw David Summat and Geoff Steedman congratulation and well done to all.  There were now social bowls on Saturday due to the Sunraysia Champ of Champ event.  The AGM is not that far away and at the conclusion of the meeting there will be some new members taking up positions whether on the Board or subcommittees to move the club forward for next season and into the future.   Saturday 4 June, Sunraysia Funerals A/C Fours, 10am start, Club Drawn Triples 5 June.   Presentation day will not be after the AGM this year instead it will be a separate event on Friday 24 June, there will be a dinner and all members, spouses and partners and guests are invited, so please make the effort to attend and celebrate with the winners your mates and friends on their achievements for the past season.   For you diary Bonanza 16 – 23 July, Vet Pennant commences on August, time to get your team sorted.

Social Bowls results for Saturday, winners Ken Yeowart and Ron Hatcher, Runners up Sam Pupillo and Geoff Castleman, congratulation and well done.  Sunday was the Peter & Neville Mitchell 2 Bowl Triples with a starting field of 60 players out on the greens enjoying a great day for bowls.  The winners were Graeme Phillips, Ian McLean and Wayne McDonald, Runners Up were Butch Pollock, Doug Watson and Fred Bacon, Third Place Neville and Peter Mitchell and Sam Pupillo, congratulations to all the winners and well done.   To all those behind the scenes preparing and cleaning up the green, in the kitchen, cooking the BBQ, working the bar and Match Committee for chasing up teams and anyone else who contributed to make the day the success it was, thank you, your efforts are appreciated and do not go unnoticed.  Unfortunately the Ladies Carnival scheduled for 18 & 19 May had to be cancelled due to lack of entries.  The AGM is not that far away and now hopefully you have submitted your nominations or express of interest as the due date has passed.   Saturday 4 June, Sunraysia Funerals A/C Fours, 10am start.   Presentation day will not be after the AGM this year instead it will be a separate event on Friday 24 June, there will be a dinner and all members, spouses and partners and guests are invited, so please make the effort to attend and celebrate with the winners your mates and friends on their achievements for the past season.

Social Bowls results were Saturday 16 April winners Jim Jeffery and Geoff Castleman runners up Thelma Hicks and Czes Knight, Wednesday 13 April, winners France Wilmann (Irymple) and Jim Jeffery, runners up Fred Bacon and Tony Pupillo congratulation to the winners, well done.  Saturday 16 April was the annual Mildura/Workers Easter Pairs a great day for bowls with field of 55 players chasing the elusive four game wins to reach the play off, unfortunately no four game winners and congratulations to the winners with three games the young guns, Emma Simmonds and Isaian Bettess, well done and thanks to all attended and Mildura Bowls Club for hosting the event, great day.  On Monday 18 April was the Billy Walker remembrances day with the weather not conducive for bowls, with a field of 40 players and a few changes to the format we managed to get through the day.  A big thanks to Peter Bishop for organising the day, it started with Peter giving and insight into who was Billy Walker, Life Member of the Club and one of those character that you seldom see these days.  At the completion of Peter’s presentation those who had never met Bill had an understanding of the man he was, well done.  Winners for the day were Mick Rhoden and Tony Pupillo, 2nd Roger Bray and Graeme Hicks, 3rd France Wilmann and Kristina Archer, best second game Fred Bacon and Helen Gervasoni with ditch to ditch winners M. Rhoden and Tony Pupillo, congratulations to all the winners and for all of those who failed to be in the winners group, Peter returned their entry fee, for such a terrible day for bowls everyone won something some cash and an insight to who Billy Walkers was.  The AGM is not that far away and now is the time to consider what you can do for your Club e.g. Board, Selection, Match, Catering, Bar, etc just to mention a few as there is plenty of room for more volunteers.
